The Firefighter's Anthem

About the Song

(December, 1996) - This song was written looking back over the last (and hopefully final) arson wave to hit the City of Lawrence. This arson wave seemed like a tidal wave with fire after fire and our staff being cut in half. This song is a tribute to those who "fought it" as our Massachusetts Firefighter of the Year pin states. The Lawrence Fire Department was named Firefighter of the Year in 1994. It is a tribute also to the Staff of the L.F.D. Those who we say "work in the office," but spent endless hours in the office and on the streets of Lawrence, away from their families, hunting down every lead. They truly hunted down these criminals. Our helmets are off to you and to those agencies who helped us (at times it did seem like a war).

This song is sung for firefighters everywhere, especially those in fire prevention. You can take the Firefighter out of "Fire Prevention," but you can't take the fire prevention out of the Firefighter.

The FIrefighter's Anthem Lyrics

Who stands the vigil while children, men and women sleep.

While they work, play and study towards their dreams ,oh so sweet.

America, the symbol of Hope ,of Life and Liberty,

Who'll protect those in dangers path, who cannot flee.

Who'll fight the battle, the war that rages in our land.

The enemy of ignorance, indifference, the carelessness of man

We must never let our guard down, the fire's too fast the price too high.

The precious gift of Life and Love, we work so none might die………Instrumental

We must never let our guard down, the fire's too fast the price too high.

This precious gift of Life and Love, we work so none might die.

Who'll fight the battle, the war that rages in our land.

The enemy of ignorance, indifference, the carelessness of man.

We must never let our guard down, the fire's too fast the price too high.

This precious gift of Life and Love, we work so none might die.

We work so none might die.
