Maltese Cross Song Lyrics

Below are the lyrics to each song from the Maltese Cross music CD.

The Maltese Cross

Refrain:
It is a symbol of strength. It is a symbol of Faith.
The cross…that old Maltese Cross
Reminds those who wear it that all is never lost.
We remember those who have gone before us
Who've answered their Last Alarm.
Their courage and strength from the Cross
Reminds those who wear it that all is never lost….Refrain:
As we bow our heads and pray
For firefighters here and past
Give us the strength of that rugged Maltese Cross
And remind those who wear it that all is never lost.
Instrumental
We remember those who have gone before us
Who've answered their Last Alarm.
Give us the strength of That Rugged Maltese Cross
And remind those who wear it that all is never lost….Refrain

The Firefighter's Anthem

Who stands the vigil while children, men and women sleep.
While they work, play and study towards their dreams ,oh so sweet.
America, the symbol of Hope ,of Life and Liberty,
Who'll protect those in dangers path, who cannot flee.
Who'll fight the battle, the war that rages in our land.
The enemy of ignorance, indifference, the carelessness of man
We must never let our guard down, the fire's too fast the price too high.
The precious gift of Life and Love, we work so none might die………Instrumental
We must never let our guard down, the fire's too fast the price too high.
This precious gift of Life and Love, we work so none might die.
Who'll fight the battle, the war that rages in our land.
The enemy of ignorance, indifference, the carelessness of man.
We must never let our guard down, the fire's too fast the price too high.
This precious gift of Life and Love, we work so none might die.
We work so none might die.

America

Chorus:
America, America we want to serve you.
America, America we stand by your Red, White and Blue.
From the rocky coast of California, in a fishing village in Maine
Wherever duty calls, the answers still the same.
Chorus:
America, America we want to serve you.
America, America we stand by your Red, White and Blue.
America, first to lend a hand,
When you're in need we take this stand.
Chorus:
America, America we want to serve you.
America, America we stand by your Red, White and Blue.
We stand at a crossroad. We've got a lot to lose.
Look deep within yourself and then we can choose.
Bridge:
The values that made us America the Free.
One nation under God with Liberty.
Chorus:
America, America we want to serve you.
America, America we stand by your Red, White and Blue.
Oh beautiful for spacious sky
Land that I love let Freedom fly…fly.
Chorus:
America, America we want to serve you.
America, America we stand by your Red, White and Blue.
America, America we want to serve you.
America, America we stand by your Red, White and Blue.

It's the Jakes that Make the Job

Spoken:
If these bricks and mortar were alive, if these old walls had ears.
If these doors could talk and this Firehouse walk It'd spread tales of courage throughout the years.
Chorus:
Cause it's the jakes that make the job. It's the Jake behind the wheel.
It's the Jake that rides beside 'em whose nerves are edged with steel.
It's the jakes that ride behind them when the truck rolls to a call.
The sirens blare and we say a prayer 'til they're home safe one and all.
Our doors have been up and down more times than Wall Street through the years.
The boiler boils, the brass pole shines, we hold our breath in fear.
'Till we hear the truck's muffler sound and we count the Jakes on board.
And sigh a sigh of relief my friends 'til it's out the door they've roared again.
Chorus:
It's the jakes that make the job. It's the Jake behind the wheel.
It's the Jake that rides beside 'em whose nerves are edged with steel.
It's the jakes that ride behind them when the truck rolls to a call.
The sirens blare and we say a prayer 'til they're home safe one and all.
'T's been times when truck and jakes return caked with snow and ice.
The coffees on smells good and strong to warm them, boy that's nice.
The talk about the trip they've made could really chill your blood.
Their main concern is people in storm or fire or flood.
We've seen the change from "hand tubs" to "steam and horse and hay".
To "the chemical" and "the combination" the finest of their day.
'Till "the motorized" retired the horse and forever changed the way.
We get to the fires but our hearts desire is still to save the day.
Instrumental.
We've gone from "the bucket brigade" to "buckets that'll reach the sky".
We'll never rest we'll stand the test and swear that none shall die.
From the ravages of smoke and fire if "these jakes could have their way"
We reaffirm our "Oath" to keep you safe and sound this day.

St. Florian

Refrain:
St. Florian protect us be our refuge and our guide.
Lead us down the path of danger keep safe and by your side.
This job it has its danger, the smoke and flame.
Guide our every action, protect us from the pain.
As our protector keep us safe and calm our fear.
In time of danger surround us and draw near…..Refrain:…..Instrumental.
Defender of those who defend their fellow man.
Protector of those who protect as best they can…..Refrain

Somewhere Everyday

In the heart of the city, sirens scream and wail.
In a town or a village, smoke and fire sail
Above the horizon, it's danger signals there…Somewhere, Somewhere Everyday.
In their stations near the fire trucks, men and women wait.
Trained and ready, hoping to change the fate
Of someone in trouble. Human life in need…Somewhere, Somewhere Every day.
You know that it's a battle. You know that it's a war.
You know of the struggles. And you know the score.
The waste and destruction, pain and death…Somewhere, Somewhere Everyday.
Chorus:
Somewhere, Somewhere, Somewhere Everyday.
Well you know that this song isn't sung in despair.
It's sung for the Warriors, those Warriors who dare.
Whose Courage and Spirit are not lost in the fray…Somewhere, Somewhere Everyday…Chorus:
Instrumental
They're dark and their light. They're short and they're tall.
Yes, they're making a difference, whether great or whether small.
They're dark and their light. They're short and they're tall.
Yes, they're making a difference, whether great or whether small.
Firefighters when duty calls…Somewhere, Somewhere Everyday…Chorus:

The Fireman's Prayer

When I am called to duty God wherever flames shall rage.
Give me strength to save some life whatever be its age.
Help me embrace a little child before it is too late.
Or save an older person from the horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout.
And quickly and efficiently to put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling and give the best in me.
To guard my every neighbor protect his property.
And if according to my fate I am to lose my life.
Please bless with your protecting hand my children and my wife.
